McFadden might be one of my new favorites. This was so good! And even in the last few pages I found myself surprised. (Ebook)
slow-paced

A simple and easy read with a clear story. It’s not too full of suspense but keeps you interested with its twists. Good for anyone who enjoys straightforward thrillers without too much complexity.

This was....meh. It seemed like it was going to be a pretty cut and dry Psycho retelling and, honestly, maybe I wish it had been?

First off, I HATE the way some writers use unreliable narrators. If Claudia wasn't writing her thoughts down or sharing them with someone else, why would she think about how much she loved her sister and of course dropped everything to raise her, only to be like "PSYCH!" when her being the killer was revealed.

I guess the answer is that she had Bipolar Disorder but...I don't like that either. Mental illness as a plot twist or an explanation for someone being violent and evil is just not the vibe.

Rosalie finding out that Greta killed the woman in the motel who Nick was sleeping with was surprising. But I didn't love Greta being like "Sure, he was cheating but I could forgive him. It was that evil woman tempting him who had to go."

Also the Death card in Tarot does not actually mean death from what I understand.

Rosalie going back an forth so quickly on what she wanted from Nick was exhausting. I fully understand having a hard time accepting that he could be happy as she got sicker with MS. But her "Nick, you have to leave!" was so abruptly followed by "Oh god. He's gonna leave!" in less of a changing her mind way and more of a seeming like we forgot she told him to leave way.

Her MS making it too dangerous to have a baby and then that just....working itself out because she finally went to a doctor was frustrating from a "Women don't always need to be mothers at the end of the story" way.

Finally, it cracked me up that binoculars seemed to be illegal in this universe. The number of times Rosalie would think "He won't just know I'm watching him! He'll know I'm watching with BINOCULARS!" or "THE BINOCULARS! SOMEONE WILL SEE THEM!" was hilarious. I see how it makes the watching out the window more planned and intense but...it just made it seem like they were contraband or something lol

Basically...not my fave. 2.
