To be perfectly honest, I really disliked the main female character - she is too vapid, too much into having fun and not very serious (in short, very different from me) - but she is young and her personality perfectly suits her character... That said, I loved the book despite her, and look forward to reading the next book in the series.

I love the interwoven plot lines, the Americana thrown in and referenced, and most of the Diviners themselves are wonderful. I can't wait to read more about them - especially the characters that were only briefly touched upon in this book. I couldn't put the book down once I started - I had to know how it would end. And I wasn't disappointed. A wonderful read.

I hate to say a book sucks but honestly this book really kind of sucks. At almost 600 pages a book better be good and this book really isn't very good. I like most books, I get sucked into a book quickly. At page 250 I felt like I was still reading the introduction. Talk about a slow start. This book really didn't get interesting until about page 475. I felt like there were far too many characters so that none of them really got fleshed out. I THINK this is supposed to be about diviners but that still isn't totally clear. I like the idea of diviners and how there were characters with different gifts but honestly there were so many characters. Also and maybe most importantly - Evie, the protagonist was painful. She was not even remotely likable until the last 100 or so pages and even then she was just a smidge likable. This book seriously bummed me out because at the end I got kind of interested but I felt like I had to wade through a garbage dump to get to what was only a few decent chapters.

Maybe I’m just not into Libba Bray? I didn’t really like the last book I read from her and this one was honestly kind of disappointing. I’m going to give the rest of the series a shot in hopes that it gets better but I didn’t get the hype for this one.

Felt a bit long to me, but also jam-packed that I didn't think it was completely avoidable.

Very good character development, which is typical of Libba Bray. It was pretty heavy- it was almost Game of Thrones-esque, in that your favorite character might die at any moment.
The shifting viewpoints made reading a bit dense.

My favorite thing was the dialog. The uses of phrases from the right time period were really cool. Perhaps overused, but definitely appreciated.

Overall, a solid 4 stars.
