This novel made me look at the relationships and trauma I've experienced in my own life, and really assess how I'm dealing with those things, and reframing my life, motivations, and mentality surrounding them. I think everyone should read this book, as it discusses very important things, but it is not an easy read if not prepared to look inward.

as someone who hasn’t been in a situationship, i felt like the emotions and connections weren’t there. the ability to relate is where i feel people really connect with this book. that the characters are realistic and the way it’s told is so accurate. don’t get me wrong i still enjoyed the book.

This book just vaguely sickened me the entire time I was reading it, but I still couldn't put it down.

I hated every character except Lorraine, and every situation they got into felt worse for them, and for me as a reader.

I will never touch this book again, but I don't really regret reading it, if only to feel better about my own life.

*Reread
This book is one big ass trope of complicated relationship with poor communication.

Marianne deserved so much more in the beginning.

“I’m not a religious person, but I do sometimes think God made you for me” is one of the best romance quotes.
“People can really change one another”

I wish the characters would just talk to each other, because it constantly feels like they're purposely not understanding one another. It made me want to reach into the book and shake them for being so self-centred and emotionally blind.

Also, Sally Rooney not using speech marks was an artistic choice that took a while to get used to?

Overall, I really wanted this book to be amazing as I've heard so many good things, but it just didn't hit the spot. I wanted to see the characters emotional intelligence grow, but it never happened.

Fascinating and frustrating - the "miscommunication" is almost always the messages the characters tell themselves more loudly than what's in front of them. Beautifully written and you could feel the chemistry and tension.

This book captures humanity and love so beautifully, leaving my heart aching. I love Sally Rooney’s writing style, the attention to detail is incredible yet so easy to read. She simultaneously creates relatable and shocking circumstances which leave me questioning everything I already know about the world. I love it 💖
