Not since Kristin Hannah's Firefly Lane have I gotten this attached to book characters. I went back and forth with reading this book and listening to the audio in my car. I could not wait to get in my car each day to listen to this book. The voices were absolutely exceptional. I loved the Southern charm, twinge of mystery, the humor and even the heart break in this novel. I can't believe I am just now discovering this author, but I will definitely be reading more. The author, Karen White, gives her characters some wonderful lines and I found my self wanting to stop and write down quotes, if for nothing more than life advice! I especially loved Loralee and her Journal of Truths. Great Read!
Three stars instead of two because I did like the almost-too-perfect character of Loralee. Her Book of Truths contained some good maxims to live by, and some that made me pause and think about my own life and relationships.
Otherwise, this book is simply a summer porch read that needed better editing. Many of the similes are ridiculous (what, exactly, is a "dying sweater") and the author's premise that wife-beating is unavoidable/genetic left me frustrated.

I enjoyed this book! The story was well from a few perspectives. I enjoyed how the relationship changed and grew for Loralee and Merritt. The characters of Gibbs and Owen were perfectly woven into the story. I listened to the Audiobook and the emotion of the narrators added to the story for me. I felt like I was having a conversation with the characters. Another great Karen White book that I recommend!
I absolutely loved this book! After the death of her husband, Merritt unexpectedly inherits his childhood home and moves from Maine to South Carolina to take possession of it. Almost immediately her stepmother Loralee and son Owen show up with no plans on leaving. Merritt also meets her brother-in-law Gibbes who she had no idea even existed. There are lots of family secrets here. I loved the character Loralee and want a copy of her journal with words of wisdom to live by.
Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book to review.

I'm a little weary of the trope of "broken woman moves to the gentle South where a man she never expected heals her" and found this to be largely predictable, albeit not a terrible book to read.
Wonderful read/listen! There wasn’t any piece that was rushed or missing -it just kept getting better at every turn. I would love a copy of the pink journal with all of Loralee’s words of wisdom.
While I doubt there’s any relationship without the occasional issue, I am grateful for mine and that it’s void of the abuse in the book.

Just as Diane Chamberlain likes to pile on the drama (I had compared The Silent Sister to a Lifetime movie - but NOT in a bad way!), so does Karen White. Anything that can happen does, but I was more than willing to go along for the ride. The Sound of Glass isn't highbrow literature, but it isn't trying to be. If you like your beach reads to have a whisper of disaster and crime (but with twists you can easily spot coming), this is the book for you. I enjoyed it to the point where I'm now actively seeking more of her novels!

I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.
I really wanted to like this as I normally enjoy Karen White's books. However, I found this one difficult to get through. The homespun advice references were very overdone and annoying. The plot was interesting, but the characters were hard to keep track of--too many names.
