I really enjoyed the first third of the book. It reminded me thematically of Imaginary Girls by Nova Ren Suma. However, I felt that the story dragged in the middle and then slowed to a crawl by the end. A twisty suspense novel such as this should speed up in pacing as it reaches the climax, not slow down like an antique Dodge Dart badly in need of an oil change attempting to traverse a hill.

The audiobook narrator is fantastic as always! but, this is not my favorite book by the author… I didn’t enjoy the main character and felt tired of her POV. she believes herself to be boring and..I agree LOL. she finds all of her identity in her relationships (or clings to one specific relationship and makes that her identity) and doesn’t seem to have very good judgement (she’s also just a kid, so). however, I don’t believe the main character of a book should be likeable or feel relatable to me all of the time. the plot moves incredibly slowly and while I did enjoy it in the beginning, I grew a bit weary of the story. there were some unexpected twists right near the end that I didn’t see coming. It had some great darker aspects and I love YA, so neither of those were a reason for me to not enjoy it, just wasn’t for me!
