Such a cute book! I loved the storyline and the illustrations, which seemed like a 70s throwback. And the ending...very unexpected but perfect.

A very cute book for children with beautiful illustrations.
About a girl who wants a pet who doesn't get what she wanted and expected exactly. The story is told with a lot of creativity and humour.

Charlotte didn't have a rock in mind when she asked for a pet, but she decides to look for the positive. Rocks don't cuddle or play fetch or any of the normal pet activities, but Charlotte comes to love her rock just the same. If only the rock could love her back...

Looking forward to sharing this with the little ones.
They try to guess at what is going to happen so we will see if anyone is right!

Simple colours in the illustrations and I love everything about this one

Update: All the kids LOVED this book. So much fun.

Solid picture book about a girl and her pet rock. Readers will learn their are advantages and disadvantages to having this kind of pet. I liked the surprise ending but wish there had been some hints earlier. Delightful vintage illustrations.

All Charlotte wants is a pet, but she wasn't banking on her parents' sense of humor. When she gets a pet rock for her birthday, she tries to make the best out of a strange situation.

This is so cute. Charlotte is appropriately child-shaped and bespectacled. The illustrations are low-key, a combination of watercolor and ink-pen and suit the story spectacularly. I love the way they choose the rock's name and the twist at the end is fantastic. This would be a super fun book to read at a pet storytime.
