the magical mental illness was pretty ham-fisted and cure-centric. could have been handled worse, but could have been handled much, much better. 
appreciated
orion and artemis's distinctness
being used as a meaningful plot point rather than just the butt of a joke. 

edit: unfortunately, having now finished the 8th book it only further damns the 7th, as
the Atlantis complex is only briefly brought up, and artemis is 'cured' without lasting consequence by going to therapy.
