This was a nice little glimpse into what was going on with Bobbie between books 2 and 3, as told through the eyes of her moody teenage nephew. I could have done with less of the moody teenage perspective, but it was an interesting little story nonetheless.

It really felt like alot of this story was just kinda... stalling? The middle part of the story isn't even our main character doing stuff, its just him waiting around for stuff to happen to him mostly. I guess that's part of the character arc, but it does feel draining to actually have to read through. I don't think it's a good sign when I'm enjoying the implied worldbuilding *that* much more then basically everything else.

While it is a great little bridge between books 2 and 3 of the main series, I just couldn't warm up to these new characters. This was alleviated a bit, though, with the inclusion of Bobbi as a way of seeing what she's up to post-book 2. But yeah, the new three main characters were all kind of uneventful and not worth rooting for. If they are included in the future main series books, perhaps they'll be more interesting.
