Well 2020 reads haven’t got off to great start.

Weak plot and weak characters, with what story there was it was steam rolled through.

The ending redeemed it slightly but still pretty disappointing ...

I was quite excite to read this. I'd been looking for a murder mystery for a few days and this kept popping up on the Kindle Store so I downloaded it.

DI Dixon hears that an old climbing friend has died and it's being called an accident. Dixon doesn't believe that Jake would make such a mistake and decides to investigate, opening up a huge can of worms where the body count starts rising. Everyone is a suspect and its down to Dixon and his partner Jane to find out what happened to Jake and who or what happened.

This was the first book in which we meet DI Dixon. It was a fast paced read and I honestly couldn't decide who was the culprit. It left me guessing all the way through this one and I loved it. Every page kept you going, there was something else happening.

I loved the plot and the storyline. Especially the setting. I know Cheddar Gorge and Weston Super Mare. I've been there a few times but didn't know about climbing so was a little intrigued about it. Loved there is a community around climbing where you feel like people look out out for others.

This had me hooked from page one. Loved it!

Easy read, a crime story with good twists. No long winded descriptions of things, straight to the point but still interesting. Will definitely be reading more in this series.

2.5 stars. Adequately written, small town, British crime novel. Other than the rock climbing at the beginning it never reaches great heights and it definitely has a few flaws but it doesn't offend my intelligence with ridiculous plot twists either. I've already got the 2nd in the series queued up so I guess that's a thumbs up from me.

I really enjoyed this it was short and succinct with good characterisation and i would certainly read more from the series. The ending had an extra twist to it

I'd like a bit more character development but the plot was good so I'll read more of these.

I would give this 2.5 stars. It was okay but I probably would have enjoyed it more had I known more about rock climbing and was more familiar with British geography.
