I have no idea what this one was about from memory, but I do recall having a massive crush on the character Will, and that crush intensified when Wilson wrote that it wasn't just girls who liked him at school. I think that's the first time I'd ever seen queerness alluded to in a book, and reading it at a young age made a big impression on me.

I had an urge to re read this book as I remember it from my childhood, and it feeling a bit like a fever dream.

It's such a great book, definitely one of my favourites of JW. So many topics are tackled here- family dynamics, the power dynamic between Will and Violet, Violet's awe of Casper Dream, Jasmine seeming like this incredible grown up girl but her parents neglecting her most of the time for their own careers. I wish she still wrote books like this!

I had to read this book for class and it is the only reason I finished it. You cannot ignore all the events of the book and all the trauma that is inflicted on the main character in attempt to make it, a somewhat happy ending.
What I found most disturbing was the amount of sexual undertones. How this book is marketed for children is beyond me.
