I'm kinda neutral about the characters, but I loved the world and the city and the story.

I also wasn't a real big fan of the last page or two. Everything kinda wrapped up too neatly almost

I absolutely loved this book. It was a little slow at times, but the world building was phenomenal. When I finished reading this book, I felt I needed to go back and look for the little details that I missed the first time around. Highly recommend for those who enjoy good science fiction/dystopian world building.

# Borne
This book holds dichotomies: the epic and intimate, of anger and love, honesty and subterfuge, enmity and forgiveness. It is a post apocalyptic adventure, a heartbreaking story of the growth, deterioration and repair of relationships, and the struggle for identity and meaning. These latter universal experiences Vandermeer brings to life in this high stakes and strange setting can stand in as metaphor for humanity’s relationship with the world and itself both within and without the story. Because even with all of the fantasy of his creation there is so much that is recognizable. The writing is immersive, spare in its treatment of the world’s past history in a way fitting with themes of the book, and yet descriptive in its smaller details, and immediate. I immensely enjoyed this book.
