I love a good music novel!

Just a bunch of pretentious jerks being crappy to each other. Boring and annoying.

Percy Marks is a student at Berkeley and meets fellow student, Joe Morrow, in a bar. Joe is a musician just starting to write music and form a band. Percy is music-obsessed, but has no musical talent. However, she is very good at helping Joe make his songs better by reworking lyrics and music. The story follows them while they are in college and a few years past graduation. The evolution of their relationship did remind me a bit of Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. However, I’ve seen this compared to Daisy Jones and the Six, and it doesn’t even come close. I enjoyed the relationships in this story, but it’s completely bogged down by all the music references and technical jargon. Also, I was hoping the audiobook might add an element to a book about music, but nope. The lyrics are narrated like the story; and there is no music in the background. Sadly, this book had so much potential, but the execution was lacking.

This is the most torn I’ve been on a rating, part of me loved the music aspect and the drama but I was getting so annoyed at the characters because they just were not communicating well at all

I hate the term indie sleeze being used in the book and in its promo blurbs. No one who was there at the time uses it.
