Not too shabby. Typical Realms novel about two genesai sisters, one of fire and one of water, one of whom is kidnapped and the other needs to save.

This novel takes place after the death of Mystra and several years after the Spellplague her death provoked. The water genesai teams up with a human, a half elf and a fey hunter in the search for her fire sister who was kidnapped by a cult of religious fanatics. They travel through the forest of the Rut that was once on ocean before the plague.

I like what they did with the villain in this story. The cult calls themselves the Choir, and alluring song penetrated all they did. As described in the book the song is beautiful and painful, and ultimately undeniable. What on earth in the middle of a once-sea could create such music and teach it to others?

Turns out a Siren who had been uprooted from her home and horribly disfigured and malformed by the spell plague was the enigmatic goddess that the Choir served. A really unique and interesting idea I find.

Characters are not particularly extraordinary. Each have their own problems and neurosis to work through, no one you can really bond or relate to though.

A bit too fast paced. Characters are faced with battle after battle after battle with little time for much else such as dialogue and story advancement. You feel at times you are missing something and go back to re-read once or twice only to find you read all there was.

Some very gruesome and disturbing parts, a few loose ends, but nonetheless an enjoyable read if only based on the presentation of the Choir. You are offered teeny tiny little tidbits into their motivation, description, and what not, that you cannot help but to read on if only to find out what on earth they are.

I am becoming really fond of the Wilds series and look forward to the next one.
