this did feel like a bit of a let down compared to last night at the telegraph club but it was still an enjoyable story!! i definitely want to read more from malinda lo.

SPOILER:

i did not like the cheating troupe used in this book. i wish a different method of exploring yourself was used.

This is not [b:Last Night at the Telegraph Club|35224992|Last Night at the Telegraph Club|Malinda Lo|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1593457992l/35224992._SY75_.jpg|56568979], but it is special in a completely different way. I loved how Aria's journey of self-discovery was portrayed and I loved the unexpectedly moving ending.

It perfectly captures the first moments of discovering your sexuality, falling in love with someone unexpected, and the all-consuming lust that comes with that first teenage love.

Malinda Lo and historical fiction go together like PB&J so I was excited to see how this companion to Last Night at the Telegraph Club would be. Don't get it twisted, it is a story in it's own right, but knowing those characters makes this all the more enjoyable.

I received an ecopy of this book via Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own

"I'm telling you this because I've learned over my life that I come back to the same subjects over and over again. Not a repetition so much as a cycling. I think everything cycles around again and again. I come back over and over to the same subjects in my art, but hopefully with a bit more wisdom each time. I'm always making art about time. I don't understand how it works, but I'm always interested in it."
