I enjoyed this. To me this was a decent fantasy novel and I enjoyed the dual POV of Elias and Laia and how it all came together. There was something that didn't completely wow me which is why it is a four star for me but I am unsure what it is, something just felt a bit off to me. I am curious to see how the story continues as judging by the ending I have no clue what direction this could be going in haha

Best kind of story. You feel like you're in it with the two of them...and from beginning to end you're engrossed in the magical world.
Sometimes I felt like the book was never ending---not in a laborious way, but a more, "what could possibly happen next" sense. Sometimes Laia bored me with her somewhat cluelessness B U T....you forget it all as you continue to read. Elias is the hero to me, and coupled w the magical world of this story, it's a must read.

I don't know how to review this book because as a whole I enjoyed it but as soon as I was finished, there was no impulse to start book 2.
What I liked:
The characters. I absolutely loved Elias and everything about his storyline. I liked Laia but I didn't like parts of her story. The whole Keenan thing drove me nuts. I felt no connection to him or any of the characters that she really interacted with other than Izzi and Cook.
What I disliked:
The world building. I know that this is only book 1 and I'm sure everything I have questions about will be answered in time, but I felt a little like I didn't really know why the world had ended up like it had.
The romance. Our main characters who will inevitably end up together seem to have other entanglements in this first book and I didn't like any of the things they set up. I don't want to give too much away, not that there's much going on in the first book, but I wasn't convinced of any of the romance.
This book left me wanting more but not necessarily in a good way. I wanted something to hook me into this story so bad but I'm not sure If I got there. I'm going to try and continue it later because I've heard so many good things about it and the potential for greatness is huge.
