"We're all works in progress aren't we, just trying to become a little better every day?"

Olivia goes home to take care of her mother after a devastating fall. Her neice has become hateful, and she hasn't had a good relationship with her mother since her father's tragic death in a fire.

I can hardly believe that The Sea Glass Cottage is my first RaeAnne Thayne read. And you guessed it, it won't be my last. I enjoyed this story so very much. There's so much heart in it with forgiveness, family love, overcoming fear, and taking chances all prominent themes unfolding throughout.

Centered on Olivia Harper, her mother Juliet, and her niece Caitlin, we see three generations of Harper women putting aside their differences to be there for each other. But it is a bumpy road and when family secrets come to light, we'll wonder if each of them will actually get their happily ever after.

When Olivia is called with the news of her mothers' fall and broken bones, she returns to Cape Sanctuary to run Juliets' gardening store. But, the Harper women are at odds with each other and all have erected walls that surround their hearts. At one point I was struck with the thought that neither Harper or Juliet feel worthy of romantic love. They look inward and only see fault. It made me deeply sad for them. This was also true for Cooper Vance. We get a hint or two as to why he feels he's not worthy of Olivia, but as they reconnect they forge a promising friendship that gave me hope for them.

Told from various points of view; Harper, Juliet, Caitlin and Cooper, we get a real feel for what's in their heads. I was pulling for them all to make smart decisions and to follow their hearts. There are tense moments as HUGE revelations come to light, the kind of things that could easily make people walk away from each other, but they learn to overcome their fears.

This is definitely a book I would recommend to any reader of contemporary romance. I rarely think of the level of steam as something I think to point out - but if you're looking for something that's purely family and romance, this would be a great one to put on your TBR.

The Sea Glass Cottage by RaeAnne Thayne has Olivia Harper returning Cape Sanctuary after her mother falls from a ladder and sustaining serious injuries. Juliet Harper likes to be independent, but her surgery will have her out of commission for a couple of months. Plus, Juliet will need assistance raising her fifteen-year-old granddaughter, Caitlin and running the family business, Harper Hill Home & Garden. Juliet is hoping to repair the deep void between herself and Olivia during this time. The three Harper ladies are each keeping secrets from each other. This could be the chance for them to mend rifts, tell truths and become closer as a family. The Sea Glass Cottage involves three generations of Harper ladies: Juliet, Olivia and Caitlin. I thought the story was well-written with developed characters. The book had a good flow which I appreciated. The story alternates point-of-view between Juliet, Olivia, Caitlin and Cooper Vance. I thought The Sea Glass Cottage was a multifaceted novel. The various storylines all work together for one compelling story. Olivia has many fears that keep her from achieving her dreams or having a fulfilling relationship. Juliet is hiding a secret from her family and her best friend, Henry Cragun. Caitlin’s mother died when she was a child. She never told anyone the identity of her father. Caitlin comes up with a plan to find out the identity of her biological father. There is much more which I want you to discover for yourself. I loved the beautiful descriptions of the Sea Glass Cottage and the sea. There are secrets revealed throughout the book which I liked. I was very happy there was an epilogue which nicely wrapped up the book. The Sea Glass Cottage is a complex, moving story about family, secrets, healing, forgiveness, friendship, honesty and love.

Another standalone book by RaeAnne Thayne and I historically like her stand alone books the most. Told through multiple perspectives, but mostly through a mother daughter duo who have been reunited by a health crisis and both must decide where they want their lives to go next. Olivia Harper has lived far from her mother for awhile and there are many reasons for this separation. Juliet Harper, her mother, fell off a ladder at work and Olivia feels the draw home to help take care of her and maybe push the pause button on her current life and rhythms and reevaluate everything.

I felt like I was reading a book that was written with the intention of being made into a Lifetime movie.

The Sea Glass Cottage

I had the pleasure to read this book over the weekend and it totally charmed me. This is the story of three generations of strong-willed women who must come to terms with deep hurts caused by family secrets and find a way to forgive each other. Everyone has regrets but pride gets in the way of finding a resolution. It will take a few major events to start the conversations which will bring healing and forgiveness in this family.

The book is beautifully written, and the love relationships come with ups and downs, but all is good in the end. It was a lovely read.
