I liked the book and the (German) narrators, but sometimes the story was a bit cringe.

The hospital scenes and out of it resulting situations were pretty nice though, because they were all pretty emotional and during the first one, I even had tears in my eyes (same as during the epilogue with the family).

In general were the characters great and I loved them. They were so cute together, but I wasn’t a fan of how her illness became their main conflict in the end (even if I can kinda understand it). It was a bit weird though that nearly every character became a villain throughout the book, except for her boss (why?) and their family and friends. Kind of felt unnecessary and also predictable. I mean, those books tend to be pretty predictable, but I do have to say that her family wasn’t that much expected (at least at first).

Regarding the audiobook: I’ve listened via Spotify and of course the chapters weren’t listened as such in the track titles, but a couple of times the narrator changes correlated with the track changes, which was nice because it was easier to get back in after stopping and to bookmark where I’ve left of (with marking the tracks as favorites).

Connor and Aliyah’s love was so poetic and unapologetic. It was so well written and their issues were addressed perfectly.

i am a broken woman.

i was hesitant with this one because i did not gel with southern storms at all even though it had so many of my favourite tropes. but this one. oh my god did i gel with eastern lights. i adore connor and aaliyah so much it's not healthy at all. this book is super heavy at times, but that's broken up with just how beautiful their friendship is and how it blossoms into so much more. at times connor feels a little too perfect but his trauma really changes perspectives and i just want to give him a hug. i adore this book. absolutely 5 stars. beware that the heavy scenes are *heavy*. i cried continuously through the final 60 pages, if that tells you anything.

TWs: reference to divorce, cancer (in remission), cheating, fatphobia, ref to violence, toxic relationships, ref to car accident, death, negative foster experiences, congestive heart failure, chronic illness, hospitalisation

Tropes/themes/rep: mid-plus size Black fmc, millionaire mmc, friends to lovers, i see how they look at you, taking care/nursing to health, nicknames (red, captain), dancing in the rain

Some books grab your heart and soul, smash it in thousands of pieces, and slowly put them back together again. Eastern Lights is one of those books, in the best way possible. I can’t quite describe how it is, it’s a book you just have to give in to and experience. A beautiful story about love, fear, hope, acceptance, and how life sometimes just isn’t fair. I love the idea of flashes of love, it’s such a positive way of living, and everybody can benefit from that!
