I saw First Position when it first came out, and I really loved it. Ballet is so beautiful; it's fascinating to see the hard work the dancers need to do before you get to watch a performance. Several years later I took my mom to a traveling performance that combined bits from a number of famous ballets, and Michaela DePrince was one of the performers. It was amazing to see her dance in person, and I was curious to read this book for more context than the documentary could offer.
Her story is fascinating, and I really appreciate her candor and writing style. This would be a good fit for readers who've enjoyed athlete memoirs in the past, in particular books like Grace, Gold, and Glory: My Leap of Faith, I Got This: To Gold and Beyond, or Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina. I'd also give a content warning about the violence she witnessed and experienced as a young girl, since a reader might not be aware of the conflict that was happening when she was growing up.
