This book was on its way to be a 5 star read for me but man that ending was not my favorite
It was a cute rom-com with a little fantasy thrown in. It dragged a little in the middle waiting for them to just go for it already but ultimately it was an easy, enjoyable read with a dash of spice.

Loved 60% of this book, but then it started to really drag the conflict. I don't mind a cozy book with low stakes-as long as the story doesn't act like the stakes are high. The will-they-wont-they was obvious and lasted too long. The characters and their interactions were cute. A light hearted read

This kind of fits into the niche that was started by Emily Wilde as a series and then you've had things like Olivia Atwater and India Hilton since. It's a sort of rom-com in a semi-historical fantasy setting closer to, say, late 1800s, early 1900s sort of era rather than what one usually gets when we're talking fantasy stories and it's nice to see more in this particular setting and because Emily Wilde did such a fantastic job with it as a series.
I enjoyed the banter I enjoyed the back and forth between the main characters, the very silly nicknames that they gave each other, and the smut is definitely excellent.
And while I was going to give it the four-star review initially I did feel that it floundered a little bit towards the end. There was probably more drama than there strictly needed to be and I don't think the third act break up was really necessary especially right after they've just come together. You don't actually get a general sense of them enjoying their relationship happily for a bit because you've got that drama immediately after their coming together.
This is probably my main drawback where this book is concerned because everything else was very enjoyable the side characters were very fun and the plot itself was silly and ultimately enjoyable without putting too much stress on the reader at any point.
