Short & fun just like Leslie. I enjoyed hearing about Leslie’s life, my only critique is that it felt a bit discombobulated? It didn’t flow very naturally, it bounced around and it was quite jarring.

4.75/5 If you’re expecting a tell all, giving the dirt kind of book, this isn’t it. Just telling a little about life, career & those he admires. Audiobook is read by Leslie. It is a sweet little book.

This book was everything I expected it to be. I've been a fan of Leslie Jordan since his time on Will & Grace as Beverly Leslie, Karen Walker's nemesis. When he died tragically in a car accident, in 2022, I was devastated. Like so many, he kept me laughing during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic with his quarantine videos. I still miss him and think of his humorous tales with fondness.

I'm always worried when reading a celebrity memoir. Often times, I end up hating the person when I used to admire them. I'm still sour about Miriam Margoyles. But I can say, Leslie Jordan is exactly the person he seems in his Instagram posts. He's funny, sincere, and downright goofy. He doesn't take himself too seriously, is always optimistic, and is generally just a delight. I laughed out loud so many times while listening to the audiobook (he narrates it himself!). It made me miss him even more!

He does a lot in this book despite it being on the shorter side for celebrity memoirs. He talks about his childhood, his obsession with horses and ponies as a little boy (and as an adult), he talks about his strained relationship with his mother early on and how that relationship developed into a loving, close bond with the help of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, and he talks about his queerness. He appears to have been very lucky in that regard, especially since he grew up in Tennessee, with a single mom, and a father who died serving in the military (air force I think?). His childhood isn't fill with tragedy or violence, and it appears that his parents pretty much knew he was gay and didn't care (YAY!). I really liked his stories from his time on American Horror Story (he tells a hilarious story involving Lady Gaga) and his stories from when he was in The Help. I wish he had talked about his time on Will & Grace but he's apparently written another memoir so maybe it's in that one.

Anyway, if you want a funny memoir from a very gay, very southern celebrity, look no further! And if you are already a fan of Leslie Jordan, this will make you like him even more.
