98/100.

The Empire Trilogy is officially my all-time favourite book series. Mara is an incredible character of incomparable ambition. The pleasure of watching her from child to Mistress of the Empire has to be one of the most rewarding character arcs in all fantasy.

Always enjoyable and always males me cry at the end. I'm so glad I bought the ebook when I accidentally left the hardcopy I'm work though.

Final book in this trilogy and also the last book of Feist that I had never read so...after 30 books the Riftwar Saga is done, I have no more Feist to read.

This book was stunning. Probably my favorite series of all of the Riftwar series.

It ties up all of the plots that Mara has weaved to a gripping conclusion. This book and in fact the whole series is not really a page turner but one long political intrigue series with so many different threads and twists it is very hard at times to keep all of the politics straight.

Travelling to other countries, other cultures, other types of magic systems.
Showdown with the Assembly.
Showdown with the Anasati.

Quite simply a fantastic way to end a series. Nothing was left out and everything tied together perfectly.

Can't recommend this series enough.

Just... wow. I remember not liking this one as much when I first started reading this trilogy (as a teenager) because it took Mara out of the Empire, creating too much distance between the politics and the people I knew. There's also far more magic - much more than Milamber's display at the arena - and a few nasty surprises along the way.

But now, rereading for the umpteenth time as an adult, the pacing, the tension and the characters all work together to draw *everything* from the series into one coherent resolution. There are many times when I despair along with Mara and her household; I join them in hopelessness as they seek help, far from home; I grieve with their losses; and I wonder how on earth anything will ever change, whether they can work with Great Ones, or whether all will be sacrificed to save Tsuranuanni. And then I stay up late to finish the last 150 pages because I know I can't sleep without following them to the very end, even though I've read it before.

I don't know how many times I've read this, but it still kept me up till 1am, journeying with Mara as she desperately risked everything she knew and valued in search of justice and change.
