I'd likely be less critical of this one if I hadn't read her others, plot wise this was all over the place. Not to mention Macfarlane's lens never really lands on a character or moment to focus on until the end-almost like she can't decide what story she's telling.

This was a very good Chick Lit book. The only problems I had with it was that it was a little bit too long and something that happened near the end of the book that left me wanting to smack Delia in the face and push her in front of a cab.

Another Mhairi McFarlane book about a small town 30+ woman going through a breakup, with realistic character backstories and trauma histories. Again better than most romance novels, although I didn’t feel like this was her best one.
The plot: A latent graphic designer who works a boring office job finds out that her lovely if not stoic boyfriend of 10 years is having a reckless affair the night she proposes to him and he ambivalently says yes. Then she has to figure out what to do with her life.
This is my least favorite of her books. Two of the supporting characters are pretty nasty men, and are basically coercing the main character to do unpleasant things professionally. That’s not what I come to romance for… this is not a genre where I want to be anxiously waiting for the lead character to get caught in some kind of professional nightmare. waiting for someone to cross their own ethical boundaries or get caught having made a mistake. It’s just not the escapism. I’m here for when I read these books.
