I really enjoyed this. It was pretty fast paced. So many twists and turns but I never expected the killer to be who it was. With friends like these who needed enemies.

When a decades-old body is found buried under an old chapel in the woods, Detective Jane Monroe decides to use the opportunity to get back into her boss’s good graces. The story follows a pregnant Jane as her finance has been missing for 6 months forcing her off of her exciting homicide job and pushed into cold cases. During her investigation she learns there are a lot of people in town who are on edge about the investigation. What lengths will they go to in order to keep the truth buried?

Loreth Anne White is an auto-read author for me. I have read several of her books and have devoured each one. This one was a little different for me. It was still good overall but didn’t meet the very high expectations I have for this author’s books. I had a hard time getting into it and I really didn’t care about any of the characters. I felt it bounced around a lot and wasn’t very cohesive. By the time the twist was revealed it was just kind of like “ok, well that’s that” and it still wasn’t over. I read most of it on my kindle but after struggling for over a week and only being around the 40% mark I decided to utilize the audiobook that was included with the KU subscription and powered through 40-80% on audio while cleaning my house before switching back to my kindle to finish the last 20%.

Just finished ‘Unquiet Bones’ and while it is not my favorite from this author, I did enjoy it. Imagine doing something 50 years ago with your friends, thinking you got away with it and having it all come back when you least expect it. All of the people involved have evolved from high school kids to prominent adults with a lot to loose. What would you do if a long buried secret came back that could destroy everything and everyone around you?

So, so good. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and I was not disappointed! I feel like I knew each character well which made the plot that much more intense. Definitely recommend!!

I loved the writing style White used in this book! Each chapter is titled with a character’s name and we get part of the story from their perspective. White also included some flashbacks that gave a dual timeline effect, which also provided each character’s version of the “truth” of that night.
I’m really invested in the main character, Jane Munro, and hope there are more books including her.
Overall, this book really held my interest and kept me in the dark until the last bit as to what actually happened to Annalise.  And to Knox Raymond ….Karma’s a b****!
