Super lighthearted and fun, but with some deep exploration of coming out to your family, standing by your person and accepting love when it is offered to you. Bursting with queer joy.

Heavy on the insta-love for my taste but if that works for you this book will really sing. I super super loved both MCs journeys in this book and the scene when D’Vaughn came out to her mom had me WEEPING.

fake dating, a reality tv show concept and LESBIANS? sign me up!!!

i just want to say that this book is so underrated and deserves more attention from the sapphics who read books community! it has pretty much everything that i love in a romance book.

this is the second book that i read where it is set in a reality show and i loved both of them. it has little to no angst that you would usually expect in a reality show but i still loved it. d'vaughn's story hits too close to home but i'm glad they did it justice. i think...

there's no third act break up or miscommunication trope and i love that. it's unapologetically sweet and gay and funny, and i just love every single minute of reading this book.

the characters are so!!! god. they invented chemistry. their dynamic!!! the TENSION!!! it's so tender and i found myself grinning and kicking my feet up in the air while reading this book. it's also very funny!!! their family are hilarious and i love their bond so much. it has very diverse characters and it's so refreshing to read.

i think everything played out well in the end. i really love it. i'm glad i read this book. the only bad thing about this book is that it ends!!! i really wish it was longer :(

I inhaled this book. I was hooked from the first chapter and I didn’t want to put it down. (And thus I finished it all in one night) I don’t think I’ve ever giggled and kicked my feet as much when reading like I have with this book. It was really cute and sappy and really lighthearted which is just what I want when reading romance. (It was also really black at times and as a black queer woman I loved it and it made me smile and laugh even more.) I literally just finished reading it and I already want to read it again and again.
idk if this is actually a spoiler but I listened to I do, I do, I do, I do from Mama Mia during the last few chapters and that really was a cherry on top to my experience reading this.

This book deserves far more attention and praise in these streets. It’s pretty much everything I could want in a romance. Imagine going on a television show where the object of the show is to convince your family you and your new partner are totally smitten and ready to settle down, but make it queer. That’s the journey of D’Vaughn and Kris. This story is so incredibly heartwarming, funny, and altogether just real. I was rooting for this couple from chapter one and will forever ride for this book!

Queer joy at its finest, D'Vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding left me smiling, and in a better mood then when I started. The premise is one of fake dating, Kris and D'Vaughn are on a reality show and have to convince their families they are getting married in six weeks! (They are complete strangers!) If they get to the altar they have the choice to either get hitched or get a fat check.
Kris and D'Vaughn have the STEAMIEST chemistry. From the moment they met at the party whenever they were in a room together the temperature rose like 10 degrees. All of the spicy scenes had me swooning, I very much would love to be on this reality show.
I swear just the description of Kris had me giggling and kicking my feet. Kris was so mature and thoughtful, I loved how healthy the communication was in this. I also found this to be one of the best depictions of Spanish in a book, I loved the Afro-Latinx representation.
I was so sad when the book ended, I wanted to keep reading!
Oh and I thought it was really cool how it took place in Houston! (H town whoop whoop!)
Perfect for fans of romance, queer stories, or really just fantastic representation.

This was really cute! I loved the emphasis on communication and how there wasn’t any unnecessary drama. I also enjoyed the humour and all of the secondary characters, especially Kris’s family.

Unfortunately though, I just wasn’t sold on the whole reality TV premise. It seemed really cruel and out of character for our two heroines to lie to their families and make them plan a fake wedding (and honestly, their families are way nicer than me because I would’ve been mad to find out it was all lies after genuinely welcoming someone into the family and putting all that work into the planning). I was also completely baffled by
the choice at the end to get married over taking the money — weddings aren’t cheap but you can certainly pay for one with plenty left over with two hundred thousand between you.
