Great mystery. Favorite since Dreaming of the Bones. Glad to see the series staying strong especially since this one is 11yrs old. I still have a lot to read!

Enjoyed the interlocking stories, and the loose ends that were allowed to hang - one of the great things about reading the series in order is picking up on the loose ends that will return in later books. The story starts with a fire, and then a woman is found murdered in the remains of the fire: was the fire set to cover up the murder? Is it one of a series of fires that are escalating? Then there is a missing girl: will they find the child? Enjoyed this one thoroughly, just wanted to read it straight through - though that was not an option.

Outstanding! After a couple of feeble entries, the series righted itself with this one. Non-stop action, multiple storylines all on the go at once, not all of them connected - it felt very  realistic. It was literally unputdownable for me, the tension and stress were gripping.  The developments in the characters' lives were well-pesented too.

Absolutely outstanding. Deborah Crombie keeps readers on the edge of their seat and constantly revising their theories about the killer.

I have mixed feelings about this one. There are some really great moments, but a few great moments a good book does not make. I love the fact that Winnie from A Finer End is back, especially since Hazel is MIA in this one. However, there are too many extraneous characters who don’t do much to move the story forward, and at least one of the main side characters was particularly annoying. It was also frustrating that while there is a major event that’s happening in Gemma and Duncan’s family, very little time is spent on it. It felt like the balance of personal and professional was off on this one. It was also very slow to get going. Things really don’t get moving plot wise until about the last third of the book, and it’s a bit of slog to get there. There was just enough to keep me reading thought over all it was not one of the strongest outings in this series. Three out of five stars.

This is the 10th book in the Kincaid-James series. I really feel this is my favorite British Mystery series ever. Duncan Kincaid and Gemma James- once partners at work are now partners at home. And I keep reading the books to see what is happening with them as well as to be amazed at how they solve the crimes. Deborah Crombie writes a very clever and intriguing plot. All the characters not just the main ones are well drawn and believable. I will be on to number 12 next.
