I really tried to get into this series, but I dnf because I lost interest. I loved the idea and the description just could not get into it! Maybe because it is advertised for a middle grade read. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read it before it came out! I wish it caught my attention.

I FINALLY finished this; it took me a month. I thought that the beginning was pretty slow, but in like the last hundred pages it started picking up and I actually enjoyed the end but it felt like things were just popping into the story randomly and at times was overwhelmed, but I liked the end though.

⭐⭐⭐.75 / 5

This book is perfect for Harry Potter fans! There is magic, adventure and an evil queen. I loved the story! It's faced paced and quite interesting with quirky characters! The world building is so well done. My personal favourite is the library and the forgotten room in the halls of ivy! I loved the friendship between Ivy and Rebecca. I also need to mention Ivy's pet the cutest scaldron Humboldt!

Thank you, NetGalley and the publisher for this fun read! It has been a while since I have read a young, children's fantasy.I really enjoyed the book and it was incredible.
First of all, It really gave me Harry Potter Vibes which is one of my favourite childhood books which made this book even harder to put down. I really enjoyed the world building and loved the main protagonist as she was fun, strong and did not let people get her down basicallyI love in my heroines. Overall this was a great read and for it’s focused audience of middle graders would do really well. The only problem I had has to do with that as I am an older reader and often found the pace to be slow but for the target audience it would be perfect.

*Thanks to the author and the publisher for providing me a copy of this book to review*

Ivy Lovely is a teenage orphan working as a maid but dreams of something more. She soon discovers that her dreams are becoming a reality when she runs away and is invited to a prestigious school to work on honing her dormant magical powers. As she explores this school and meets some new friends, and adversaries, she discovers there is a deep dark secret that only she can uncover.

I absolutely love a good fantasy series but I have to admit I do not usually read many middle grade books - so my expectations were not too high. However, this book quickly drew me in. The author does an excellent job of creating a unique world with a fascinating magic system (and easy to understand) and fun characters - a perfect story for fantasy fans of any age. The story was fast paced and engaging throughout. The cliffhanger at the end of this book has me excited to continue the series.

This was such a magical and whimsical read, and I enjoyed it so much! The Crowns of Croswald is a middle grade fantasy with a Harry-Potter-esque vibe, but it definitely has its own twists and turns that make set it apart. All of the characters are so interesting and loveable, and the magic system and world building is so well done. It's the right balance of intricate and logical, which makes it perfect for middle grade. This is a world readers can easily get lost in and will definitely want to return to. I loved getting to know Ivy as a character and am so excited to continue to watch her grow throughout the series. This is a book that keeps you reading, and the ending is a great setup for book two, which I will definitely be reading!

Shorehorses, Black Unicorns, and Hairies.
Finally a magical school I’d like to attend.

The Crowns of Croswald by D.E. Night is the beginning of an imaginative middle grade series, featuring Ivy Lovely whose curiosity leads her on a series of adventures.

Growing up as an orphaned scaldrony maid in the castle, Ivy’s life was rather mundane, until mishap with a scaldron dragon on Moonsday caused her to flee. She discovers an invitation to the Halls of Ivy, a school where students learn how to master their magic. Unaware of her source of magic, she tries to unlock the clues while trying to outsmart the Dark Queen.

I’m not going to lie. I’m not a fan of middle grade magic school books. I feel like it’s an overused trope- where it follows the same old rubric. And I’m here to tell you, that I enjoyed The Crowns of Croswald immensely.

It was my first NetGalley download, and I read it, surprised by my enjoyment. Bought the series directly from the author -her website is gorgeous by the way- and recently reread it to be sure. This book is unique and creative, and was clearly written by someone whose whole heart is in Croswald. It reads like a young girl’s dreamscape, fleshed out into a fully realized fantastical world.

I’m looking forward to reading this aloud to my kids soon, and continuing on with Ivy Lovely and her adventures.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. As a middle grade book I think it does the job at being able to capture the attention of children who are interested in magic, magic schools, etc. our main character Ivy seems to be a little lacking in the common sense which was a frustration to read about. I liked the magic system/world that was created I only wish the book delved into more details describing things in general. I think a middle grade reader would enjoy this book so I’ll have to pass it along to my brother!

This was a charming story and perfect for Harry Potter fans! Ivy discovers she has magical powers and is sent to a school. But she soon learns not is as good as it seems and evil lurks nearby in the form of the Queen. A wonderful coming of age story. I really enjoyed it and believe Middle Grade aged kids would love it. I definitely recommend to them!
