It is a wonderful magical book. It's light, breezy and fun, just what I needed at the moment. I loved the magic of Croswald. I loved how the writer created newer versions of some well known creatures often seen in fantasy books. There were Hairies - fairies whose hair lights up, so they are used as lamps. There were dragons who helps cook food! It was a book full of childish wonders and who can say no to that.
I love seeing a strong female protagonist and Ivy Lovely fits the description just right. The book contains some very common and well loved tropes, the chosen one and the dark lord. These were pretty well executed. The storyline was well written. It had twists and turns, nail biting climax sequences, beautiful moments of friendship and love. The school setting gives major Harry Potter vibe and honestly who can get enough of that?! I can't wait to dive into the next installment of this series.
Thankyou author D.E. Night and the publisher for giving me a free copy in exchange of an honest review.

I really enjoyed this first in the series from DE Night, the world and character building were not only diverse but intriguing, alluring to the reader while creating mystery. Ivy’s character was relatable and fun, I loved her point of view throughout the story and her heroic tendencies.
For those with a keen eye for witchy adventure reads, this one if for you!

Summary:
Ivy is 16 years old and has no idea of her magical powers. She’s grown up as maid without any family. When she is fired and kicked out -she begins school at a magic boarding school. Ivy gets into all sorts of adventure and trouble as she discovers who she is. There’s so many mysteries and secrets at Croswald that Ivy is itching to explore. But as Ivy grows closer to discovering her heritage, she also discovers that there’s a Dark Queen in power ready to destroy everything Ivy has grown to love.
Review:
This was a middle grade fantasy which is a tad out of my bubble but I was instantly sucked into the story.
While reading it- I thought to myself how it felt like a combination of Narnia, Alice in Wonderland, and Harry Potter. There were a few action scenes that I was confused, trying to understand what was happening. But overall- a really good read.
I loved Ivy’s adventurous spirit. This felt very coming-of-age, and as this is a series, I can see there’s still so much to be explained and explored. I honestly see myself reading the remaining books in the series because I want to know what happens with Ivy, Fyn, and Rebecca. If you love magic and fantasy and adventure- I definitely think you would enjoy this book. As a kid- I know I would have loved this one.
Thank you so much to NetGalley, the publishers, and the author for this ARC.

The Crowns of Croswald - D.E. Night
Ahh, what a lovely fantasy book this was, filled with magic and mystery!
Right from the start, I was hooked on the story of Ivy and her journey in this magical world.
The world-building was incredible and I fell in love with how the world is described, it sounds incredibly beautiful and whimsical. We follow the journey of Ivy and her time at a wonderful magical school, however, Ivy has no idea who she even is, or what her powers could be. She enters a whole new land of mystery and enchantment and makes exciting discoveries about her past.
I loved how the magic system was set up in the book and the whole royalty scene as well! The Dark Queen storyline was 100% my kind of vibes as well and this was really well written.
The start of the book was a little slow however I feel this was more to set the book up for the amazing middle/end, and the rest of the series as well!
This book reminded me of my childhood and Ivy is a badass character who is brave, smart, and incredibly sassy! Can't wait to read the rest of the series!
Thank you to Netgalley/Author/Publisher for an advanced copy of this book!

I’m going to start with the cons first. Unfortunately I just couldn’t connect with the main character at all. It’s stated that she’s 16 years of age, but on a maturity level she acts much younger.
On a better note, the writing was really lovely. I enjoyed the magical atmosphere provided in its world building. It reminded me of Harry Potter in many ways. So if you’re a Potter fan, chances are you’ll probably enjoy this book too.

3.5 stars!
The Crowns of Croswald is a whimsical story with magical elements very reminiscent of the Harry Potter series. A magical boarding school, magical quills, unique and fantastical creatures. Although I felt there were a lot of similarities, the story still has its own unique feel. The book is advertised as a middle grade book but it didn't always feel like one to me. The main reason is because the main character, Ivy Lovely, is already fifteen going on sixteen years old at the beginning which threw me slightly off. I did thoroughly enjoy the whimsical writing and descriptions as well as the cute drawings at the beginning of each chapter which helped me better envision the world and certain scenes. The story was well-paced at the beginning but felt slower throughout the middle since we are still learning about the world, school, and characters. The end picked up quite a bit, but almost too much. It felt like the action was over as quickly as it started. I know this is only the first book in the series though, so overall, I do think this was a good introduction, but just felt lacking in some areas.

The Crowns of Croswald follows Ivy, a curious and gifted orphaned girl. Working as a maid, she wishes for more in her life. Until everything changes on her birthday...
Diving into the story, some aspects reminded me of Harry Potter, while the story also gave me overall Disney vibes, which made me feel nostalgic in a way.
While the story had me hooked from the beginning (the prologue sets the mood and main questions for the whole story), it took me a while to understand some of the workings of this specific world. Which do get clearer and clearer as the story proceeds.
The main character, Ivy felt a bit flat at parts, but I did appreciate that she wasn't written as "grown up" and all knowing as many teenage protagonists are. I also really enjoyed the cast of side characters and their dynamic with Ivy and each other. I hope we're gonna see more of the group working together in the following books, as they had a great chemistry with each other.
So all in all I can recommend this as an easy and fast read for Middle Grade lovers !
The ending definitely made me want to continue with the series and I cant't wait to read what's gonna happen next!
