The Dance Deception
by: Becky Ward

THOUGHTS:

I want to thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for giving me the opportunity to read an e-arc in exchange for my honest review.

I thought that this book was great aside from what reviews said. I don’t read reviews before I dive into a book anyways…to each their own views with books and I am glad that I didn’t. This book was well written and well done, not necessarily something that I would usually pick up to read but I am not mad at it. I thought it was cute. I loved the characters Aleksis & Kate, I truly did. This book was a quick read and I thought that the relationships and the chemistry amongst the characters was well done. I love how the author threw in some great twists and turns into the book and they definitely had you guessing what was going to happen. I think that this book deserves a lot more than what it’s being given. I would recommend this book, of course :)

While this was a very quick read, I don’t think it was written particularly fantastically. The spice was there quickly and then seemed to be all the book revolved around, more so than the actual dance competition. It was enjoyable enough but it didn’t feel like the romance really had a lot of substance.

I had a really hard time liking the characters. The ending was the best way to wrap up this kind of story, and I felt satisfied after, but the only thing really keeping me interested was Lucy.

I received this ARC from the publisher and NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. Please take my review with a grain of salt, as this normally isn't the kind of book I'd pick up.

A fun premise - romance at a reality dance competition - but the characters just can't seem to get out of their own way. Our romantic lead, Kate, gets paired off with the clearly sleazy Merle. She makes one ridiculous decision after another, then becomes the victim of revenge p*rn. Somehow, we as readers are supposed to blame her for all of this, then root for her to get her happily ever after with her new dance partner. The plot strains credulity, even with a premise that has you suspending disbelief. None of these characters are particularly likeable, and I can't find much in this one to recommend to any reader. Some may enjoy it, but it is, unfortunately, not likely to win many fans.

This was cute, a fun read, but it definitely has some problems for me. I liked the premise of the book. Kate was quite possibly the most ridiculous FMC I’ve had the pleasure of reading before. Our very first glimpse of her has her panting after her dance instructor, and half a second later, they’re kissing. A day later, they’re getting much more “familiar” with each other. My first thoughts were literally “omg, I’ve stumbled into a p*rno in book format.” There was no plot at that point, except Kate had magically ended up on a television show and was doing the dirty with Merle, her instructor. Side note: Merle?? What a name

This was so cute! Such a fun and charming read. I loved the relationships and the friendships that grew in this. A really delightful easy read with sizzling chemistry and a dash of spice. Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy- all thoughts are my own

I'm seeing a lot of negative reviews for this book, which had I stopped before the 40% mark I could have understood. But after making it all the way through, I genuinely appreciate what the author did here.

To start - the main character is a bit pathetic. But c'mon, it's realistic. Just because the story line begins as she's in the middle of poor decisions doesn't make her any less valid than other beloved heroines whose mistakes happen before the first page (Feyre Darling, is that hay in your hair?)

Does she make the decisions I'd like to think I'd make given her situation? No. But cut the girl some slack. From the offset you know that she's reeling after finding out her partner of 2 years was cheating on her with a coworker.

Despite the main character's poor decision making skills, the story really was interesting to me. The author doesn't go with convention, surprising the reader left and right (I died when I found out who sold ~the picture~ to the press).

Overall, while this isn't my favorite book, I had a nice appreciation for it. Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper 360 for providing me with this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
