As someone who reads primarily adult fiction, the ya tropes just pulled me out of the story. But I think it's fine and perfectly enjoyable.

The island of Cadella is absolutely mesmerising and I loved every magical description of the salted brisk winds and colourful rows of homes and balconies. The story was gripping and maintained its power right through to the end. I did, however, wish I’d gotten to read more about Lina and Eva’s relationship, the world after the Dark Tide, and even the history of before. Despite being over 300 pages, I just wanted to know even more about the characters and their lives and homes.

This one was really interesting and I enjoyed it a lot!
The world building and setting were immaculate. Despite the book being quite short and a stand-alone, I got invested in the island and it’s happenings. I loved how it was a melting pot of cultures and foreign magic, and I found the sacrificing-to-the-tide thing very engaging.
Unfortunately I don’t feel like I had enough time to really get attached to the characters and their relationships, but the intimacy I did feel was still impressive considering the book’s length.
The characters were unique and complex for the most part, and their interactions with each other were entertaining.
I did find the plot predictable but I enjoyed the rest of it enough that I’m giving it four stars.
