Dark wlw fantasy with witches, the devouring sea, sibling relationships, love, and sacrifice. I loved how Lina and Eva grew throughout the book as individuals, and that their relationship ended on a very tender, tentative note. It felt like they still had room to grow as people, as were choosing to do so together. The prose was beautiful, and special shout-out to Lori Prince as the reader. I knew I was in for a wild ride the moment we met Eva and heard Lori's dark, smoky "You'd better hold on tight, then." And also?? Screaming at the end when

we decide to sacrifice Marchine and Eva goes "besides Natalia, I have always loved you most" as justification

the characters dont act like real humans and when they do theyre garbage humans. every character either has a savior complex or a victim complex and its so unlikeable. i LOVE unlikeable characters but these characters were supposed to be likeable. the plot was not great. it didnt even get started until page 200 which ALSO isnt usually an issue for me but the characters were so horrible if became one.

Very interesting premise! I highly enjoyed the world-building, but I also felt the overall story could have been stronger. The pacing in particular was a weakness for me, as the story felt like it both rushed and dragged in turns. Several times I felt I had missed a scene (or several) that really ought to have been at a certain point in the narrative. I really did enjoy this book, though. Again, the world-building was quite delightful!
