good fucking soup. The way that Shelley Parker-Chan writes about people and the relationships they have is just so delicious. I can’t wait to read more from them.

A successful sequel and conclusion to the duology. I listened to the audiobook and I'm glad I did. This story has complicated plot threads that I would have DNFed if reading.

I honestly forgot a lot of the previous book, but this book did a good job of reorienting me, slowly and deliberately. There was good character growth and battle scenes. I really enjoyed how the "mandate of heaven" was used in this book. It felt naturally integrated into the world.

The end was... Abrupt, but I get it. This is kind of historical fiction, so if you know history, you'd know how this was going to end.

In short, if you liked "She Who Became the Sun", you'll probably like this one.
