Zu diesem Buch kann ich gar nicht so viel sagen – der Titel spricht schon sehr für sich: die Story dreht sich um eine moderne Cinderella Adaption. Die Umsetzung ist Kelly Oram einfach nur grandios und traumhaft gelungen und ich habe mit Ella gehofft, dass alles besser wird. Für mich war das Buch ein absolutes Young Adult Highlight und die perfekte Liebesstory für Zwischendurch mit Happy End. 💕
En esta historia tenemos dos personajes principales que son Ellamara y Brian.
Ellamara es un chica que está a punto de cumplir 18 años y es fanática de una saga de fantasía llamada Las crónicas de Cinder. Vive con su madre (que también es fanática de la saga y por eso le puso de nombre Ellamara). Su padre las abandonó cuando ella tenía 8 años y no volvieron a saber de él.
Ella tiene un blog donde a menudo sube reseñas de libros y películas y en el cual, hace 3 años atrás, conoció a Cinder, su mejor amigo virtual. Ambos comparten los mismos gustos y a pesar de no haberse visto nunca saben que siempre están el uno para el otro.
Brian tiene un par de años más que Ella y, aunque Ella no lo sepa, es un actor famoso de Hollywood y quién protagonizará la película Las crónicas de Cinder. Al tener tanta fama, muchas veces se siente encerrado ya que él jamás puede tomar sus propias decisiones. Es su equipo de representantes quien se encarga de manejarle la vida, y hasta decirle con quien tiene que salir y a que eventos debe asistir. Es por eso que jamás le confesó su verdadera identidad a Ellamara. Con ella se sentía un chico común y tenía miedo que al confesarle quien era su relación pudiera cambiar.
El día de su cumpleaños número 18 Ellamara tiene un terrible accidente en el cual pierde a su madre y ella queda con muchísimas secuelas. Estuvo tan grave que debió pasar muchos meses hospitalizada por lo cual obviamente debió abandonar su blog y el contacto con Cinder.
Al quedarse sin su madre, debe irse a vivir con su padre y su nueva familia, quienes desde el principio la tratan como a la rarita y quienes no la hacen sentir bienvenida, sino todo lo contrario. Principalmente sus hermanastras Juliette y Anastasia serán quienes le harán la vida imposible.
En una de las sesiones con su psicóloga, ésta le sugiere que retome el contacto con las personas que dejó atrás luego del accidente y Ella vuelve a comunicarse con Cinder luego de 8 meses de ausencias. A partir de aquí ambos retoman el contacto y todo vuelve a la normalidad. Pero Ella no se atreve a contarle muchas cosas de su accidente y Brian prefiere no contarle quién es en realidad ya que ambos se sienten bien volviendo a tener la relación que llevaban desde un principio.
Este libro, como su nombre sugiere, es un retelling de Cenicienta (o así es como lo vende la editorial) pero personalmente no clasificaría este libro como un retelling. Si bien hay algunas similitudes con el clásico, la historia es muy diferente.
El libro está narrado a dos voces tanto por Ella como por Cinder, y creo que la autora acertó en hacerlo de esta forma ya que podemos conocerlos a ambos a fondo, tanto sus vidas como sus sentimientos.
La pluma de Kelly Oram es hermosa. Es muy real, muy precisa y emotiva. La historia en general es muy emotiva. Todo lo que tiene que vivir Ella te pone las emociones a flor de piel y tengo que confesar que he llorado muchísimo, pero también me he divertido y me he reído como nunca. Es un ir y venir constante de emociones, lo juro. En un capítulo estaba llorando a mares y al siguiente me estaba carcajeando con lo que leía. Y he llegado a gritar de la emoción, lo confieso

I am struggling with a star rating for this between 3 and 4. The book is good and the story line not run of the mill. Certainly in parts it was emotional just maybe a little drawn out.
I liked this a lot. I'm not a big fan of fairy-tale re-tellings, but I had access to the audio during an AudioEscape trial, and access to the text with my Kindle Unlimited plan. I didn't really turn to the text though, stuck with the audio.
Audio notes - on the one hand, I kind of wished there were two narrators. One for Ella and a male narrator for Cinder. To have complete chapters in the female pretending to be a male voice ... I think I would have preferred having more of a distinction between the characters telling the story. Then there is a struggle with the consistency, as the alternate narrators voice the other MC (so I actually really love duet narration)... so, this did have consistency going for it.
The MC is from Boston, so her pronunciation of car, heart, start, apart with an accent shouldn't have been surprising. It wasn't even overly accented, but anything with the "ah" sound just jumped out at me during the narration.
As for the story - I liked it a lot. Interesting setup, with Ella and Cinder being screen names (although Ella IS the MC's actual name too). Still a little surprised none of the characters came up with the whole "Cinderella" tie-in with the names, the step-mother and two step-sisters, the ball gown, etc. (until the very end when Brian brings it up).
So overall - this book had me anxious to continue, to come back to when I had to put it down. Easy to follow, not "deep" per se, just enjoyable ... and of course, a HEA.

OHMYGOD are you kidding me?!!! This was one of the best books I've read in a long while! It's cute and funny and absolutely heartbreaking.
Kelly Oram is my new favourite author. She has the ability to make you laugh out loud one minute and SOB the next. I love love loved her writing, the dialogues, the characters, everything!!!
It was most definitely worth it staying up till 4 AM reading this. My heart is so full and I can't stop smiling.
