I should really rate this three stars, because I'm not sure I would recommend this to anybody, but I wouldn't recommend eating a whole pint of ice cream to anyone either.

I came across this book a few months back but completely dismissed it because of its awful cover. I guess it's true what they say about book covers because this book was brilliant. I loved the author's writing style and the characterisation of her heroine and hero. So many YA contemporary books attempt the romance/family/mental health/self searching blend but none have got it quite right as this book.
Our heroine Ellamara was truly inspiring. She was such a vulnerable character and at times that was always her weakness but that was perfectly balanced with her moments of strength and self confidence. We went on a journey with her. At the beginning of the novel she was someone who could have easily fallen into depression and I think she did for a while but by the end of the book, even though she still had a lot more growing to do, she became much more sure of herself.
Brian was certainly an entertaining hero. I felt bad for him and the life he has been thrown into but he was so good for Ella and she made him happy too. It's weird to say that even though we got chapters in his POV I still didn't connect to him as a character even though I was rooting for him and Ella.
For me the romance was overshadowed by the other plot lines of the book especially the plot concerning Ella and her family and friends. I loved reading about her, her dad, Jennifer, Juliette and Rob. And of course Vivian and her dads too. We won't mention the other step sister. The dynamic between Ella and her dad was really difficult but got me very emotional as did the relationship with her friends. They made for an amazing support system. I didn't mind that these guys overshadowed Brian and his and Ella's romance a bit because it was something different. That's not to say I didn't love the relationship between Brian and Ella.
All in all a really amazing book that I'm super pleased about picking up!! Of course there were the usual cheesy aspects but I can definitely overlook those!

Inhalt: In diesem Buch geht es um Ellamara, die bei einem Unfall ihre Mutter verloren hat. Sie selbst hat viele Operationen überstehen müssen. Nun muss sie zu ihrem Vater ziehen, der, als sie noch ein Kind war, einfach ohne Abschied verschwunden ist. Er hat mittlerweile eine neue Familie. Da sie sich unerwünscht und nicht verstanden fühlt, nimmt sie wieder Kontakt zu ihrem Chatfreund Cinder auf. Sie haben sich damals über ihren Blog kennengelernt und sie hat sich damals in ihn verliebt. Ob er ihr nach der Funkstille wieder antworten wird und ob sie ihm verraten wird, wie es ihr gesundheitlich geht? Vielleicht hat auch er ein Geheimnis...
Meinung: Der Titel hat mich sofort angesprochen, da er mich an das Märchen "Cinderella" erinnert hat. Allerdings finde ich den Namen nur teilweise passend, da das Buch eigentlich nichts mit dem Märchen zu tun hat, auch wenn es eine wichtige Botschaft enthält: “true beauty comes from inside a person. If you feel beautiful, then you’ll look beautiful to others no matter what’s on the surface.” (Kelly Oram - "Cinder & Ella").
In das deutsche Cover habe ich mich von Anfang an verliebt. Es ist ziemlich gehalten. In meinen Augen strahlt das türkise Cover mit den rosa Blumen und der weißen Schrift gute Laune aus. Ich finde es hat mit dem Titel zusammen eine leicht märchenhafte Ausstrahlung und trotzdem passt es perfekt zum Buch.
Der Schreibstil war leicht und flüssig zu lesen. Er hat bewiesen, dass man keine geschwollenen Worte braucht um einen zu Tränen zu rühren und das ein Buch gleichzeitig ziemlich berühren und trotzdem auch witzig sein kann. Ehrlich gesagt, hatte ich erwartet, dass wie leider so oft in Büchern, die Folgen von so einem Unfall nicht groß beschrieben sein würden. Fälschlicherweise ging ich davon aus, dass es eine "typische" Hollywoodromanze werden würde. Um so mehr war ich berührt und verliebt in diese Geschichte. Es wird genau und realistisch beschrieben wie es der Protagonistin nach dem Unfall geht, wie ihr Leben sich verändert und was für Folgen das ganze sowohl körperlich als auch psychisch für sie hat. Ich fand es gut, dass der Schwerpunkt nicht nur auf der Liebesgeschichte lag sondern auch auf dem Thema Familie, Schule, Freundschaft und Rehabilitation. Ella war mir dadurch sehr symphatisch und nah. Ich konnte mich in einigen Punkten sehr gut mit ihr identifizieren. Cinder alias Brian fand ich am Anfang nur okay, aber, je mehr man ihn kennenlernen konnte, desto toller fand ich ihn. Auch die Nebencharaktere fand ich super. Die Schwestern waren realistisch dargestellt. Ich denke, dass viele sich bedroht fühlen würden, wenn plötzlich eine neue Schwester auftauchen würde. Vivian und ihre Dads fand ich einfach nur so. Sie haben bewiesen, dass man keine Vorurteile haben , jeder Art von Menschen gegenüber offen sein und ihn nicht bewerten sollte, wenn man nicht den Charakter kennt. Das beweisen die drei indem sie keinerlei Berührungsängste mit Ellas Verletzungen und Narben haben und sie wie jede andere auch behandeln. Bei Ellas Vater und Stiefmutter war ich mir nie ganz sicher was ich von ihnen halten sollte. Die Stiefmutter wusste nicht, wie sie mit Ella und ihrem Aussehen und Narben umgehen sollte. Ich denke, aber dass sie im Laufe der Geschichte gelernt hat, dass Aussehen nicht so wichtig ist und dass das Innere zählt. Auch ihr Vater hat in der Geschichte gelernt, dass es nicht immer richtig ist das zu tun was Eltern für das Beste für ihre Kinder halten, sondern dass es auch wichtig ist auf die Meinungen und Empfindungen der eigenen Kindern Rücksicht zu nehmen.
Fazit: Dieses Buch bekommt von mir mehr als nur fünf Sterne! Es hat alles was eine gute Geschichte braucht. Es behandelt ernste Themen, aber man kann auch lachen und es geht um Liebe, Familie, Drama und um das Leben. Es hat mich wirklich tief berührt. Für mich ist das Buch nicht nur DAS Jahreshighlight sondern gehört jetzt auf jeden Fall mehr als nur verdient zu meinen Alltimefavourites!

After seeing this book pop up in my news feed on Goodreads as well as Wordpress, I thought I'd give this book a go! After all, who else can relate to a fantasy nerd who runs a blog and devours book but yours truly?
Ellamara was named after a character in a fantasy series that was widely popular when her mother was a teen and the love for books as well as fantasy was passed down onto her daughter. She decided to run a blog which was a place where she reviewed books, movies and had discussions [or rants] about particular things. Along the way she caught the attention of Cinder, a huge fan of the very series Ellamara's namesake is from.
Cinder is, in fact, Hollywood's "It" boy, Brian Oliver, who was just cast to play Cinder from the Druid Chronicles - for years Cinder and Ella speak via the internet and become great friends, but on Ella's birthday one year he loses contact with her - he doesn't know this but she was in a car accident with her mother which cost Ella's mom her life and landed her in the hospital for 8 months.
This book is kind of filled with everything that I loathe and yet at the same time I found I had to finish it.

-Girl who says she's not fragile or broken but is in fact fragile and broken and were are reminded at every.single.page.

-Everyone is horribly cruel to Girl and I mean EVERYONE.

I kept reading though because I wanted to know how this book went, shameful of me but it's kind of like a bad hallmark movie you just get sucked into reading. That's how this felt.. I enjoyed the nerdy references. But on one hand you have the annoying Ella who I couldn't connect with and Brian "Cinder" Oliver was equally as annoying, too. Brian knew what was best for Ella - always ALWAYS... telling her what to do. Argh, yeah... I'm in the minority here when I say that I did not enjoy this book.
