Finished! And I want to move onto the third book immediately šŸ˜ I feel like the book is too short as I want to find out much more of this world, but then it has a perfect ending for this story before going on to the next.

SOME characters I just want to murder, they’re awful 😣

Another fun read in which we discover that Coates doesn't do as many throwaway lines as we might have thought.

The Ravenous Dead is the second book in the Gravekeeper series and I highly recommend reading the first book so your not lost! These books are considered young adult but I feel they read this way. They are a quick easy read and I look forward to reading them!
Keira is back along with her friends Adage, Mason and Zoe and they have stumbled onto a new mystery, this mystery involves another ghost in the graveyard outside Keira cottage she’s staying in. This new ghost is a shady dark ghost from the 1800’s and appears to be a serial killer. This ghost is angry and attacking other ghosts in the graveyard and has it out for Keira. While trying to solve this mystery, Kiera is chased while leaving the local hospital and these unknown men hold a key to her past that she can’t remember. As she tries to put the puzzle together she’s left with two mysteries and a lot of questions. I love this series and can’t wait to see where it goes!

The only thing wrong with the series is I have to wait a year for part 3. I loved the first one so I pre-ordered The Ravenous Dead and really enjoyed it, too. I like the characters and I like how the author doesn't forget about the initial mystery introduced at the beginning of the last book, but doesn't let it overwhelm the rest of the story

Definitely a step up from the opener for Kiera's story. We got a few elements of her mysterious past by expanding the setting beyond the small town of Blighty. The antagonist was compelling and terrifying, and the only way Kiera made it through was with the help of her friends, so I enjoyed her opening up and building a team which looks like it may expand even further in the next book.

I received a copy of this book as an early review copy from Edelweiss+ and Poisoned Pen Press. All opinions are my own.

{3.5 stars}

Keira is a woman with no past, well that she can remember anyway, she has landed in the town of Blighty and realized she can see ghosts. Like anyone with these unusual skills, she's found a job as the caretaker of a graveyard. There she can help the ghosts find the thing that is keeping them from moving on. When she is suddenly tormented by a dark shade who seems to be consuming other ghosts before they can pass on, she has to figure out just who this is terrorizing her new home town.

I found this one cute. I'm not sure that's what I expected when I started reading but it reminded me in a lot of ways of The Library of the Dead. There is a big baddie and scenes of violence but the overall vibe I got from this was cute. Keira is sweet and caring, maybe a little reckless but surrounded by supportive friends and a resilience driven by the need to help others. There is a mystery about who the big baddie is but I wouldn't call it a mystery with a capital M. Some people have even categorized this one as a thriller, I don't think it's that at all. Maybe the last quarter has some scenes that are page turners but overall this one goes at a steady pace.

Thanks to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this novel. All opinions above are my own.

Keira serves as groundskeeper and spirit ā€œwhispererā€ in the Blighty Graveyard. Wanting to discover the spirits' stories and help them move on, she stumbles across the grave of a serial killer who viciously haunts the graveyard. With her friends, Zoe and Mason, they set out to learn about the shocking case of the killer from their small town.

While classed as a horror, I would recommend this broadly, as it is a light take on the genre. This book has small town vibes, a fun cast of characters, and an intriguing mystery at its core. Add some comic relief to the mix and you have yourself an engaging read.

This is the second book in the Gravekeeper series but could be read as a standalone. I hope there’s more to come in this series, as I’ve greatly enjoyed this book and its predecessor, The Whispering Dead.

Thank you to NetGalley and Poisoned Pen Press for an eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I love Darcy Coates. She writes the most atmospheric ghostly books I’ve read! Thank you Poisoned Pen Press via Netgalley for the e-arc.

The Ravenous Dead is the story of Keira, the new groundskeeper at Blightly Graveyard and she can hear the otherworldly cries of the souls that haven’t passed on to the other side. There is an interesting history tied to this graveyard and I enjoyed how Keira worked to unearth it! I had hoped to read more about Keira but the killer’s past took up the space. Also the story wasn’t as atmospheric as I thought it would be. Still gonna read the third book though. I think this would pass as a good standalone book too!
