Friendshipping is a lovely guide to, well, friendships. Thank you, Workman Audio, for the chance to listen and review this!
As a 26-year-old girl who is comfortable in her full-time job and goes to school online, I have found that I don't go out much with the thought of "I should make a new friend." But, in the last year I've attempted to make sure to tell my friends that I love and appreciate them often. This book is about all friendships: long-distance, workplace, school, lifelong, new, old, and any other you can think of. I think one of my favorite parts of this book is how much emphasis they put on pronouns, and how you should make it clear very early what yours are, and make a big deal about not misgendering anyone.
This book is based on a podcast, one that I have never listened to but I might look into it. The audiobook is narrated by the two girls who run the podcast, and it added a great touch.

Encouraging and challenging, balanced with such gentleness and kindness.
I feel like 2020 has been the year of books about friendship and I have absolutely no complaints about that. Unlike other books I've read about the topic, Friendshipping: The Art of Finding Friends, Being Friends, and Keeping Friends is more of a how-to manual than a discussion of the concept of friendship. I liked the themes of the sections and found that there was a lot of useful information in this book -- everything from how to meta-think why your friends hanging out without you is making you jealous to scripts for how to handle some potentially awkward situations with friends. The advice is generous and kind yet delivered in a way that avoids the holier-than-thou tone some advice books have.
If you're looking for a book that will make you think more critically about the friendships in your life, I'd highly recommend reading Friendshipping. (You should also check out Jenn and Trin's podcast, Friendshipping, as it's a delight.)

This is totally for you if you want/like to learn *every* aspect about friendship. This book covers various topics such as how to be a better friend, distanced friendship, maintaining communication, and more. Some of these topics are great to read as it reminds us how to be more present; however, other topics were elementary school level and went into (a little too much) detail such as "how to tell a secret" , "how not to lie", and many subsections of "how to apologize", I found myself skimming during these chapters. My favorite part of the book was the first section where the cover the basics of how to make friends (especially as adults), I found many valuable take-aways in this and points I haven't thought of before. Props to the authors for focusing on such an important topic that isn't typically covered, friendship!
This is what I wanted the Big Friendship book to be.
Thank you NetGalley and Workman Publishing Audio for my copy of this audiobook!
I am giving this book 3.5⭐, rounding up to 4. This title interested me, because I've always struggled with friendship dynamics. Not knowing when people are asking too much of me, not knowing how to decline social invites and what is a healthy level of communication.
This book shed light on all of the questions I had in my head going into this. I got my answers and I'm pleased with most of them. As the book says, friendship is a skill. An acquired skill at that. There are millions of people in this world where being a friend or making friends just isn't in their wheelhouse. I definitely relate to those people.
Trin and Jess, hosts of the popular podcast, Friendshipping, definitely did a thorough job with this book. I can tell they put a lot of effort into exploring every single friendship dynamic, gave helpful suggestions and useful scripts to help you navigate sometimes difficult or awkward conversations you have to have with people you consider friends.
I appreciate the opportunity to read this book and I feel like I've had some personal growth because of it. I will definitely be recommending this book to my friends!

I *loved* this--the voice, the layout, the lessons! I'm buying it for my YA collection--some of the lessons are geared more towards the in-college-or-just-out-of range, but I think there is a LOT that teens could learn about communication, boundaries, and priorities. Also a great chapter on keeping friends when you're moving away/growing apart.
