Nope. Not in the right frame of mind to write a coherent review.

Please wake me up when it's next October (the release of the next book) because I cannot, absolutely cannot, wait for it.

I NEED IT NOW

This book was really good. I appreciated how much more all of the characters & themes introduced in the Lux series were at the forefront. I found that yes, the book did take a bit to move along, but I found it necessary like there was a Lux series book that followed suit similarly to layout what was happening properly. I found it satisfying overall and the ending was hinted at, but definitely a good twist.

Holy alien babies everywhere! The Origin series is back to mess with your emotions and take you on an absolutely wild ride.

Luc and Evie are back, picking up right where we left off. Evie is a bit of a mess, not really knowing what’s going on with her life. Luc is a mess, having just found out that the most evil person to cross his life is back. Despite all of the turmoil surrounding Luc and Evie, their love story is still going strong. Luc is always there to catch Evie when she falls, no matter how hard that fall is.

The plot of the Origin series thickened at the end of the second novel, The Burning Shadow, when Luc, Evie, and crew ended up in Zone 3, which used to be Texas before the fall out of the Lux series. Now that the crew are deep into Zone 3, some of those familiar characters are back and I was definitely swooning over Daemon and Katy all over again.

Throughout the book, Evie learned how to embrace her powers and really comes into her own as a strong independent character, and we love that for her. She was truly the star and overcame so many unexpected struggles. Though these were definitely alien struggles and not something anyone would ever face, it was so relatable. Some times I just wanted to scream that life was just so unfair to Evie, but she just kept killing it, and who doesn’t love that?

While the plot focuses on Evie and Luc and not much else, there are so many characters swirling around them and in and out of their story, that it never felt lonely or centered. Life and living life was such a focus of this story.

It did feel a bit too real at moments, given that the virus in the story spread like a pandemic and cities were shutting down and quarantined. It was a definite instance of life and literature being too in line. As shocking as that was to see on page, it worked so well for the story and it didn’t feel weird or awkward. It almost made it easier to feel like you are one of the characters walking in and out of Luc and Evie’s everyday life.

One thing that JLA really kills at is twist endings. The end of this book didn’t feel like a cliffhanger, but it hurt to close the book. There are so many unfinished stories right now and it’s such a dark place for Luc and Evie. I absolutely cannot believe that I have to wait a whole year to hear what happens next.

I received an e-ARC from the author and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Review can also be found on *Milky Way of Books*

I am not sure how to put in words this book.

Maybe because it was a trip down to memory lane with the cameos and the characters I didn't expect to see? Or maybe it was because of the difficult week that left me so drained that I couldn't even finish this before its time.

No matter what the third book in the Origin series was filled with emotion, a slow-building plot, and friendships developing over the pages. Evie and Luc had to deal with lots of conspiracies, the chilling realization that Daedalus was bonkers crazy, and also the past that shaped both of them, for better...or worse.

While I don't want to give away the plot I had to admire Evie. She grows a lot and she tries to handle the powers she discovers that she has. It's amazing also that she has very supportive friends and Luc who loves her to the point of obsession (a healthy dose of it but he truly does).

The rest of the story felt a little slow to be but no less endearing and a trip to nostalgia, making me remember back in 2013 when Lux came to my hands and I had first read of Kat's and Daemon's story. And seeing, reading about all of them together made me remember why I still love these books so much.

The ending was a classic Jennifer Armentrout cliffhanger, making me beg for more and also to wish for a good ending because the way the situation was left? It will torture at me until next year!

Will I read the next one? Yes. But this one just drug on to me, it felt like most of the book was recap until the very end and then it was over.

Every time JLA publishes a new book I say "THIS is my new favorite book" and I mean it every time. The Brightest Night is no exception and in fact, it might just be the best Lux/ Origin book so far.
