tropes:
- childhood to strangers to lovers
- sports romance
- college romance
- virgin H x experienced h
- h with troubled past
- black cat h (kinda)

what I liked:
I love loved the h being the more experienced one.
I loved that there was no slut shaming, no misogynistic comments, no ‘im not like other girls’ (god the bar is on the floor)
I liked that there were no special treatments just bc they were athletes
I like that they were worried abt their school work like normal regular college students lol

what I didn’t like:
the ending felt so abrupt. the while book was just lackluster. there were not exploration into their characters. usually my favorites things about sports/ college romances are the friendships (esp among the team) and the found family aspects but I got nothing. I was told they were great friends but I didn’t feel it when I read it. most of the teammates were shadows in the book literally. they had no names, no physical descriptions, and no distinct characteristics. they felt very much like faceless background characters put there to make it seem like our hero had a great group of friends but it just felt so hollow. even the side characters that were more in the frontlines felt so one dimensional and just slabbed there as an afterthought. I don’t want to compare but the off campus series has some of my favorite friend group. it does such a good job at establishing the H and his relationship with his team mates esp the ones he was closest w. just from the first book alone, it establishes each side characters really well. and I loved their relationship with the h. I wanted so much for this book to have that and it had potential but unfortunately it didn’t follow through.
as for the h, where do I start. idk she had so much to work with, there was so much to explore esp with what she went through. she could’ve been such an interesting character and I wanted her to grow, and deal with her trauma, but she felt very 2d. and honestly in hindsight, everything that happened to her felt very surface and it felt like it was just slabbed onto her to make her a ‘deeper’ character bc the author just didn’t dig any further. the same thing with the H. very surface.

idk I was expecting more but it was just so lackluster.

I am not picking on this book or anything and I am sure other books Ive read(and didn’t write as extensive of a review) probably definitely deserves just as much or maybe more harshness. Its just, I usually don’t feel like writing reviews and I kinda forget as well but I was in the mood today. as for this book, it wasn’t the worst book Ive ever read or even in the top 10, just not enough yk. word of the day would be lackluster and disappointing.

This book was actually super cute, well-paced, and had a good balance of sports, romance, college life, and personal growth. Read TW’s first!

*spoilers ahead*

The Characters: I really likes Ivy and Aiden. I really liked the complexity of Ivy and learning about the way she is. I also appreciate how high strong she is and independent she is (although with her life she was forced to). I appreciate how level-headed Aiden was and how sweet of a character he was. I liked reading about their childhood compared to current day. DJ and Caleb might have been two of my favorites. They were just so sweet and funny. I liked Raine and Porter too. I liked Aiden’s mom…didn’t care for his dad. I liked Lena and Rhea a lot! They were so cute with their bakery. The coach is a misogynistic jerk so I do not care for him. I also didn’t really care for Ivy’s parents.

The Plot: I actually really liked the plot. There was a really good balance of childhood vs. college life vs. romance. It was paced really well where I struggled to put the book down. I honestly felt like I was getting bamboozled in the first chapter when the description said they were childhood friends, but they pretended not to know each other. I liked the re-development of Ivy and Aiden’s relationship. I also really liked the development of Ivy’s friendships since she didn’t really have anyone before. I also thought the ending was a solid way to go. I’m glad Aiden stuck with football and didn’t completely change. And I’m glad Ivy pursued baking. My biggest plot complaint was the proposal. In the car??? Huh??? Bro cmon.

The Book Cover/Art: I actually like the cover. I don’t normally love when there are people on the covers, but I like the flower detailing.

My Critiques: The proposal. We were doing so well until the end. What was that.

I highly recommend this sports romance!

I went into this book because I was craving some sort of sports romance with football in it and this one caught my eye.
Ivy is an interesting character and although I found the whole thing a bit bland I can definitely have compassion for her struggles.
Aiden is just a good guy, sometimes that's all we need in book like this, abs that felt refreshing to me.
However I don't see myself continuing this series.

"Above all else, . . . choose happiness. Not anybody else's, but yours. Because at the end of the day, you'll find a lot more of it when you open yourself up to everything life has to offer when you're truly content with where you are in it."

This book I felt was mentally exhausting just because of how much baggage Ivy had and how unwilling she was for love. But it had a very cute ending!
