Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for the ARC of this novel in exchange for my honest review.

It was the first book I read from this author and it took my on a sailing trip across the Mediterranean during the early 60’s. It was an interesting account of the European culture and diversity of the time, even if somewhat biased as the author mainly saw the seaside towns and, by definition, these are the more touristic places in any country.
But it was enough to get a geopolitical sense of the time, and that made it an interesting read.
What was really a turn off for me was the amount of times the author kept referring to his celebrity friends, and the name dropping. The writer’s lifestyle here was not as appealing as, for example, Jack Kerouac’s.
Easy enough to read for dye hard fans of travel literature.
