The pedophilia is what I couldn’t quite get over as an adult… as well as the fact that most of the book occurs over the weekend but she’s willing to die for him? Idk I mean it got me out of my book slump like the old reliable read it is but also 🤔

Maybe just because I went in with low expectations, but that was actually pretty good. The writing was hamfisted, particularly in descriptive language - it's practically criminal to set a book in a place as atmospheric and magical as the Olympic Peninsula, and have the prose so flat and bland. And of course it was too teenager-y, and Bella had as much personality as, well, a doormat. Even given those complaints, it hung together as a story well. I don't understand why it got so wildly popular (or was that only with the later ones?), but it was a fun read.

Not at all my usual genre, but I LOVED it! The story sucked me in right away (lately, it's been taking me a long time to get into books -- I'm not sure whether that's due to the books themselves, or just a phase I've been going through) and I couldn't put it down.

The story is okay. Although the books are known worldwide, I think the book is not the best I have read.

Twilight really is that girl!!!
I’ve never read the books, but I’ve obviously seen the movies many, many times.
I’m most shocked by how much I loved Bella as a female main character. So much of her (and Edward’s) personality is lost in the movie - as much as I love R. Patt and K. Stew. Their awkwardness really overshadows the rest! This book was funny, it was tense, and it was gripping. I knew everything that would happen, yet I still didn’t want to stop reading it!!
I loved the insights we have already gotten into Edward, Esme, Carlisle, and Alice’s backstories that we don’t ever fully get in the movies. Even Bella’s relationship with her mom is more fully fledged out.
I can’t believe how much more important Mike Newton is in this book. More time was devoted to that kid than the vampires hunting Bella down to kill her.
I do feel bad for anyone who truly believes these books have a love triangle… it was always going to be Edward!!?!? Anything else is a delusion!

Guilty as charged.
