I decided to give this author a try because she was recommended as being similar to Linda Howard. The similarities were there but I found this book kind of boring and bland. Maybe I'll try another one by her but right now I'll stick with Linda.

I've been in a romantic suspense mood lately and the latest Jayne Ann Krentz was one I just couldn't pass up. It didn't disappoint! Both Grace and Julius are very good at what they do but their outlooks couldn't be more different. Grace is all about seeing the upside and positive thinking whereas Julius' personal mantras are "Trust No One" and "Everyone has a hidden agenda." I liked that they both respected each other despite being so different. Julius encouraged Grace to be more careful and Grace encouraged Julius to be more positive but at no point was there any belittling or dismissing. I really liked that this wasn't insta-love. In fact, they don't really like each other at the beginning but Grace needs advice and Julius needs a project. While their relationship developed quickly as is usually the case in this genre it never felt forced. Mostly, I just loved that they listened to each other.
The mystery itself was interesting and the loose ends were tied up nicely. There were some fairly minor plot holes and the reveal felt very sudden. I wouldn't say this is the most unpredictable of books as I had a pretty good idea what was going from pretty early but that didn't effect my enjoyment. This also isn't a book that will really stick with me but it was definitely lots of fun while I was reading it!

This is probably more like 3.5 stars. It's pretty good-not original, but not completely predictable.

I won this book from a Goodreads Giveaway!

What a wonderful read! Not only does it have the essence of a mystery, but that combined with the romance created a book that is thoroughly entertaining!I thought Millicent was the criminal the entire time, ever since it was revealed that she was the one who handled the money for the company.Kristy really didn't come into play all that much. At least, not until the end. What a crazy spin!

I really enjoyed the stories when I first started, but sort of got tired of them as it progressed.... too many were similar.

Amuzanta si relaxanta. Sigur, nu este o lectura de referinta in literatura (nici macar in cea romantica), dar mi-a facut mare placere sa o citesc si s-a potrivit dispozitiei mele actuale.
4.5 stelute, rotunjite la 5.

Wasn't the best of the romantic-thriller genre, but it wasn't the worst either. It was an average story, which is pretty decent when you think of how saturated that genre is currently. At least Grace was quirky even if atrociously naive.

Grace Elland finds her boss, Sprague Witherspoon, murdered. He was a motivational speaker. There was a vodka bottle at the crime scene. Grace killed a man with a vodka bottle when she was 16. He tried to kill her and she saved herself and a young boy. Grace is a suspect but there is little evidence. She moves into her parents cottage on Cloud Lake. She's trying to save money and figure out what to do next. She's set up on a blind date with Julius Arkwright. He's a wealthy venture capitalist. The first date doesn't go well but she realizes her best friends husband set up the date to Julius' impression of Grace. He's police chief in Cloud Lake. Julius calls her and they have a very intimate talk. The next day she decides to ask him to help her come up with a game plan for her future. They become close. Additional things happen and it is clear someone is stalking Grace. The mystery is solved very satisfactorily and the story provides a lovely HEA. I always enjoy books by this author and this one was good.
