There was something strangely beautiful about this story that I'm not sure I can explain. It's about so many different things: dealing with a sibling's death, finding one's own place, solving a mystery. The plot didn't follow a predictable progression. I felt like was more of an exploration than a trajectory. But it worked so well. An original, fascinating world, and a protagonist I cared about.

This feels underwhelming. Settings are interesting with colonists kind of vibe who have to survive on a toxic planet. There are venedolphins which are actually whales. And there's murder. It should be interesting but it's not. I even can know the murderer when they were first introduced. No tension and too long it lost all the magic.

2 stars.
