As a runner, I really appreciated and enjoyed this book. As a reader, however, I struggled a bit with the organization of how the story was told. It jumps around a lot and can be hard to follow if you're not very familiar with Linden's impressive career.

Awe that was a special read. Couldn’t put it down! Gosh i remember watching Des win the 2018 Boston Marathon like it was yesterday! Favorite quotes: “Act as if you are the thing you are trying to become” and “Getting in shape is not easy but being in shape is awesome”… the second hitting very close to home at the moment. Big Des linden fan girl and dare I say even bigger Jon Ball fan girl. That man works miracles and fun to hear about their relationship! Great read for any runner. Cheers to the next marathon build!

Recently I began listening to a podcast hosted by Des Linden and Kara Goucher. I believe I heard about this book on that show. From the podcast my love for Linden’s voice has grown and reading this book on paper felt like sitting across from her. I loved hearing her story, her running journey, her motivations, and how her grit came to be. Linden is tenacious, funny, and spirited. This book inspires me - in running and in life. I almost wish I could read it for the first time again. Read it if you run and even if you don’t. Maybe, like Linden and me, you will choose to run.

Des’s story is exactly what I needed to hear at this particular moment. She offers a gritty reminder that running is amazing because it is so often terrible.
