I've been wanting to read this book for a while, actually. This popped up in my Spotify recommended audiobooks (long story) so I decided to check it out.

3.5 stars, rounded up.

I've read *checks my notes*, 4 Karen Mc Manus books so far, and this is mayhaps my third favorite. It would've been my second favorite, crossing the Cousins, if the end wasn't so abrupt. The journey to finding the killer, and getting the backstory of the victim was so so good that I was genuinely disappointed when I reached the epilogue. I needed more than a single page because it was just like, "ha, you're the murderer. This is how I figured it out. Now, toodles."

But, to give the story major credit, the characters were the highlight of this story. Brynn, my love, you're in my heart forever. AND Tripp, I want to give you a million hugs. Tripp's PTSD is explored well, especially when he references it during another situation. Brynn and Tripp together are adorable as heck, but that could just be the teenager in me simping.
I also loved that we got Mr. Larkin's story throughout the mystery. While we never meet him, we can understand who he is from the way the characters talk about him and the slow/gradual hints we get about his past.

Overall, a decent mystery that kept throwing curveballs when I thought we finally caught the murderer.
