4.25 ⭐️ this was such a fun and enjoyable YA mystery thriller!! i liked our main girl (and the side characters were charming or at least interesting to read about), was invested in the case and all of the plot twists, enjoyed the dark academia aspect and the dash of romance. the story was suspenseful and its development made complete sense, but the ending was shockingly abrupt and i was under the impression that it was the last chapter Before the epilogue and not the epilogue itself, so i was confused when i turned the page and saw Acknowledgments. other than that it was great and i liked the gradual unraveling of all the layers and details in the case. it didn’t feel predictable or far-fetched. don’t think i enjoyed a YA mystery thriller this much ever since reading a good girl’s guide to murder.

this was my first karen m mcmanus and i’m excited to read more of her books! <3
