I've been on an unexpected Karen M. McManus kick lately, and Nothing More to Tell was the last one that I owned and had not yet read - until now! It didn't turn out to be my new favorite of hers, but it was a solid YA mystery overall.

Let's start with a positive - I actually really enjoyed the plot! It wasn't too straightforward, and while we got the "everyone is a suspect at some point" approach, it did a good job of linking puzzle pieces together in a way that was actually plausible and made sense.

I did guess the ultimate reveal, though, and that's because of my main gripe with this one - the characters just weren't that interesting, and that unfortunately included one of our main characters, Brynn. She had a bit of snark in her, which was fun enough, but other than that she's the girl who sort of likes journalism, and that's all. Our other main character, Tripp, is a walking red flag even within the context of his behavior, but at least that made him somewhat interesting. Everyone else was flat as a board, with exactly one character trait per person, and that made it really, really easy to puzzle out the whodunnit part of the whole thing.

Nevertheless, the audiobook of this was a fun one to listen to, and I had an a-okay time overall. I'm sure I'll be picking up future releases of the author whenever the mood strikes.

I am 35 years older than the target reader. While McManus's books are entertaining for me, I really love that these mostly wholesome and optimistic crime novels are available for adolescents.

My least fave book by my YA queen Karen lolz. Sorry girlie this book just didn’t hit as much.

Wow. I really really enjoyed this read. I havent read a crime book in a while and it was such fun! First of all, the characters were round, with detailed backstories and multiple character traits. Brynn and Tripp, the 2 protagonists were a really good pair, both platonically, at first, and then romantically, although the romance part felt kinda rushed towards the end. The backbone was there tho, so no hate i love em. I had many, and I mean many suspects regarding who did the crime, pretty much every character that had as decent amount of time in the book, but oh well I was not, in fact, correct. Before any mention of Brynn's thoughts on that, I thought it was Shane. Nope. Then maybe Tripp. Nope. Lisa Marie. Nope. Mason. Nope AND THE LIST GOES ON. The one and only person i did not suspect turns out to be the most likely candidate for the murderer role. And I say most likely, because we did not get definite closure at the end. Wich is why i did not give it 5 stars. The plot. great. The characters. great. The suspense OMG MY HEART WAS RUSHINGG. But dear Karen, why did we not have, the DAMN ANSWER. WHO DID IT , WHO KILLED MR. LARKIN BRO??? NOT THIS NOT THAT, THEN WHO?! In the LAST 10 pages we get the most LIKELY person to have done it, Charlotte. No fax, no police lights, just a theory backed by little evidence. Dont get me wrong, the theory stands well, but it was not corfimed. It kinda ended on a cliffhanger, wich is great in other books THAT HAVE A SEQUEL, BUT THIS DOESNT. Nevertheless, I get the appeal, not your typical ending in a crime book, but I still wanted a definite answerrr. OVERALL GREAT, Karen you did it again bestie!! Deffo recomend!!!!

I was sooo invested at first but towards the end I was a little impatient (and disappointed at how it all ended). But hey, it was enjoyable.
