a LOT of character arcs developing in this book. Because the series is so long, there is room for this slow build, and I think the payoff will be worth it. Fire heart is still trying to find his place in the clan and he definitely has some missteps along the way. The title is really apt: this book really focuses on the building tension and ends with such a shocking twist.

Fireheart has become deputy. Bluestat hasn't been the same since Tigerclaw's betrayal and Cloudpaw, Fireheart's nephew, is being tempted away by Twolegs.

I really liked this book. It started out a bit strained with Bluestar’s depression and Cloudpaw’s disregard for the warrior code, but the collective of Erin Hunter did a good job balancing different characters and the conflicts between clans. We really see fireheart come into his role as deputy here and it’s very satisfying to see how far he’s grown.
