This was very long winded, drawn out almost dnf’d but was too invested. Tough subject matter of transgender, death, abuse b

Jodi Picoult writes such amazing books. The kind that when I finish, I hug the book and stare into space, thinking for a while. I did that with this one as well. The chapters she wrote from the mother's POV were brilliantly done. The chapters written by Jennifer Boylan weren't, imo as good. I had a hard time liking Lilly or her mother.

I was enjoying it until the Maya twist, it just felt so unnecessary that it was her. And it doesn't go anywhere? I feel like it being an accident was fine. It being Dirk would've been fine too. Maya just felt like a preachy gotcha.

Couldn’t even finish it. The premise seemed promising but immediately was very slow and by page 20 had covered just about every controversial hot topic you see on the twitter every day, and in a subliminal or meaningful way either… very forced and was almost insulting to the reader’s intelligence. A painfully cringe read. Cute cover art, but I definitely understand why it was only $2.99 on Kindle.

Unpopular opinion clearly but I did not like this book. I went in blind which I do for almost every book, and I was intrigued in the beginning. But about a quarter of the way in it began to drag. And then it became less like a novel and more like I was reading a textbook or something. I felt like it was taking a long time to move the plot forward and found myself becoming less interested in it because of that. Maybe it’s just me but this book wasn’t it for me.
