Gave up. Was interested by the beginning but it got a bit tedious in the middle - to be fair it is for 10-15 yr olds and I can see it as an awesome BBC adaptation, but as for slogging through it - Meh. Have given it back to Charlie.

I dinged it for the ending which was more than vague. I kind of had a 'wait' moment when I was finishing it not really understanding what exactly was going on. Also, it was just a tiny bit boring compared to some of this author's other books (I have already read about three and a half books by her not counting this one so I have a bit of a reference for this). The one thing I will say I will never stop thinking thanks to this book is butter pie :)

Lovely re-read. First read in the late 80s and remembered loving it, didn't disappoint. Always amazes me what you remember and also forget about stories.

One of my absolute favorite books from my youth. Time City is the kind of place that only exists in dreams. This is one of the most vividly imaginative books I have ever read, the kind of imagination that would only be ruined if put on film. HIGHLY recommended.

Diana Wynne Jones books are always a pleasure. This is a bit of a slower/weirder one — so I haven’t read it so many times — but I enjoyed reading it again.

Time travel in confusing, but it's also a great adventure when DWJ is in charge. Time City is a place apart from time where things seem to be going wrong and Vivian Smith ends up there whisked up in a case of mistaken identity and then stays trying to help the City.

Fun read. I think Ms. Jones stretched the time metaphors too far, but her characters, situations, and plot are superb.
