Bought a copy to read while driving across Kansas (a 6 hr, butt-numbing, soul-crushing experience)... aaand now I can't sleep without repeatedly making sure the front door is locked.

A great read and a classic! In Cold Blood is a the first book ever written in the true crim genre. Capote's writing is riveting.

The beginning and end of In Cold Blood were great. This was my first true crime book, and I felt as horrified, heartbroken, disgusted, and intrigued as I hoped I would. A variety of perspectives related to the Clutter murders are represented, giving the full scope of why these murders happened and how they shaped the town of Holcomb.
Capote digs deep into this case. No detail is left untold—which, at some points was fascinating, but at other points was boring. I had to drag myself through the middle of the book because there was no excitement, minus the occasional emotionally traumatizing background story. Other than that, I was impressed by Capote's ability to write about a nonfiction event in the form of a story.
