At this point, Regine Abel can do no wrong in my eyes, and this series has quickly become my go to for a cozy, comfort read. I loved exploring this water world and all the awesome abilities of the Thalan species. And, as usual, our mmc Echo was absolutely besotted with Nerra. It was so beautiful to watch him give all the attention and care Nerra never previously received, and for his whole family to so quickly love and accept her.

i think i have decided that regine abel is not for me. i just really dont like how she writes dialogue, and the other elements dont make up for how much i dislike the dialogue.

This was a let down compared to the other books in this series. There was just so many unbelievable plot bits, and it began to feel like a 16-year-old's diary entry of becoming a mermaid rather than anything decent. I found myself both bored and irritated with the plot, and just wanted to zoom to the end so that I could hop to the next book (which would hopefully be better).

Specific things I did not like:
- FMC knowingly acting childish, at the suggestion of MIL
- The whole DNA changing and becoming a mermaid was a little ridiculous
- the plot was dull with sick/visit/sleep/panic/progress in a cycle
- daft overpowered abilities?
- over reactions to slow progress
- overly perfect MMC who was two-dimensional
-
the biological indication of soulmates plot, which I normally don't mind but just irked me at the end of this because it added nothing

- did I mention a dull plot? And I normally love people fitting into the domesticity of their lives
